Building the future - delivering the skills to drive UK productivity
Skipton Road, Harrogate
Client: The Home Group | Cost: £38 million | 52 mixed-tenure homes
It is more important than ever that the UK has a skilled workforce. Boosting the uptake of apprenticeships will help to ensure that this happens, resulting in greater productivity and economic prosperity.
At United Living, we believe that apprentices are vital for the sustainability and continuing growth of any business. Training new and existing staff through apprenticeships enables us to deliver higher levels of quality and service, as well building for the future through the provision of opportunities for young people starting out in their career.
We recently recruited four new bricklaying apprentices through EN:Able Futures, which is the shared apprenticeship arm of Efficiency North to work on our Skipton Road site in Harrogate. The £38 million scheme consists of the design and build of 220 high-quality, mixed tenure homes with all associated infrastructure and connection works.
Isaac Richardson, Ben Kay, Lewis Duncan and Jamie Guthrie are aged between 16 and 18 years old and each bring their own unique set of skills and attributes to the table. Our apprentices have shown that they are eager to get started with their apprenticeships, learning new skills and getting work experience alongside their qualifications to begin their bricklaying careers.
Dean Cartwright, Construction Site Line Manager, United Living said: ‘’Our new apprentices have settled in very well, working as part of a team, bonding with their workmates and showing a willingness to learn. We are confident that they will all have long and successful careers in the construction industry”.
Tracy Worsnop, Development Coach, EN:Able Futures said: ‘The fabulous four bricklaying apprentices are working hard on site though a difficult time with the COVID-19 pandemic. All are keen to learn and have settled into site life working within their bricklaying gang bubbles, developing skills and learning a trade for life from the experts. They are already an invaluable part of the team helping to build high quality new homes in Harrogate.’’
